The
Village Taverna has a rather unique place in local history. Founded
over twenty years ago, the Taverna (formally a materials shop),
was one of the first Greek restaurants in the south east of London.
Striking in appearance and loft in reputation, the Village Taverna
commands a strange kind of respect in the Blackheath Lee community.
To many of the locals, the Taverna has always been there, proving
to be one of the few constants in an otherwise mutable, shifting
environment.
Fledgling restaurants have come and gone, the landscape demolished
and revamps many times over, but the Taverna remains as it always
has.
So what about the food? It is a restaurant after all. Ambrosia,
it is said, is the food of the Gods. We have the stuff by the bucket
load and you don't have to be a deity of any kind to enjoy it. Why
not try out wide selection of appetisers and main courses. Carnivore
or vegetarian, it matters not. There's something for everybody.
Recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation,
exotic concoctions that come direct from the old country, food that
remains connected to Greek cuisine's original source.
A couple can expect a three-course meal & wine for less than
forty pounds. A meze (meat) special deal from Monday to a Thursday
costs you as little as £32.50 including a bottle of wine (per
couple).
Private parties and celebrations are always welcome and the staff
are attentive and friendly. So what do you have to lose? Why don't
you pop in and give us a try?
